But Continue Thou
“But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;” 2 Timothy 3:14
In the 23rd Psalm, David in referring to the blessings of the Lord said that his “cup runneth over”. Certainly, we who have come off two weeks of special meetings could say the very same. We have been blessed with a time of intensive study and challenge from the Word of God. The question that we must now ask is, what will we do with the truth that has been given to us? Will we be changed because of this time or will we slip back into the old routines of life?
Paul in his final address to Timothy challenged Timothy to continue in that which had been committed to him. Timothy had learned much at the feet of this godly apostle. He had been instructed clearly from the Word of God and was now faithfully serving his Savior. Yet, he was vulnerable and susceptible to forget that which was committed to him. We have received the truth from the Word of God and many made decisions with respect to that truth. Now it is our duty to be a doer of the Word and not simply be hearers of the Word alone.
As you reflect upon the truths committed unto you, as you remember the challenges that the Spirit of God drove home, be sure to heed the instruction of the Scripture and continue on in your commitments and your consecration. Let us not soon forget the Word of God that was so precious to us and let us not lose our zeal for seeing others brought to our Savior. The Lord has done a good work in us, let us continue to allow Him to complete the work in us.
