Following In His Footsteps
“For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps.”
1 Peter 2:21
Years ago, my wife and I faithfully walked our two Rottweilers in the woods behind our home. At times, there was some debate as to who went first. The reason was simple. After a heavy snowfall in the woods it was quite taxing to go ahead and break a trail for the dogs. The snow was sometimes knee deep or higher and it was far easier to follow in the footsteps of whoever went on ahead. It requires less energy to follow in someone’s footsteps, that is a rational deduction. The wonderful thing was that as we walked the same trail each and every day, we gradually trampled down the deep snow and walking in the woods on a snowy day was no longer arduous. It was interesting to observe the dogs happily walking in the path that was made for them.
The path has been cleared for us by our faithful Leader, Jesus Christ. He has completed the work and has made our path plain. Yet how many veer off the path that He has set and cause themselves untold heartache and wasted opportunities. Which path are you taking, are you following in His footsteps every day? You can be assured that Jesus Christ will never lead you astray. If you trust God completely, you can follow everywhere Christ leads. We are reminded that “Follow the Leader” is not just a game for children, it is what every obedient Christian should desire to do each and every day. “This is the way, walk ye in it.” Isaiah 30:21
